So many on these threads, think just bring back to the USA companies like Nike. They absolutely have no understanding that when a produce is placed on the retail market, if it is completely out of line in price with foreign made goods, sales will fall to the point that it will drive the company out of business.
And that includes high priced clothing by the major designers. They cannot afford to make those clothes in the USA, as they require so much hand work. The big country for those high priced designer label clothing, sold in only highest priced stores is Bangladesh. Not even China can produce them at a competitive price that only the very wealthy can buy.
**** knows, that if they brought their shoe manufacturing back to the USA, they would no longer be competitive in pricing and would put them out of business.,
On the other hand, look at how foreign auto companies are building their cars in the USA, using parts from around the world. It is cheaper to assemble the cars in the USA than it is to assemble them some where else in the world, and ship the finished car to the USA.
The reason so many American companies such as Nike are having their products built overseas, and shipped to this country for sale, is they do not want to be driven out of business because they can no longer compete with their competitors.
In Vietnam apparel workers stay with their jobs for years. They have a lot of experience. I can't imagine low wage American workers stay in their jobs for more than a few years.
I've run in New Balances a couple of times and they're very good running shoes. But I stick with Brooks Ghosts these days because they're the perfect shoe for my feet and gait right now regardless of where they're made.
With the high price of some of the running shoes, there is no reason they can't make them in America. The shoes sell for plenty enough to pay for rent and labor to make them here.
Some of the cheapo shoes, it makes sense to make them where labor is cheap because there can't be much profit margin on them. But any decent running shoe is at least $100 and some of them are a couple hundred dollars. That's plenty of mark-up. It's not like there is a ton of expensive material in those shoes.
