I say they should cap the income level...is 100k the right amount? Maybe, maybe not, but it sure seemed like quite a few folks that did receive the first check didn’t need it as on a CD thread stated they were saving it or adding it to their investment funds.

We file a joint return and the joint income is less than $150K. We both got stimulus checks. I think that's a fair cut off. If we made over $150K as a joint income I wouldn't feel bad about not getting stimulus checks.

Repeating what's already been said. There is a cap:

If you made more than these amounts you did not get a check.
Single Filer: $99,000
Joint Filer (no children): $198,000

advantage:
The government would save a lot of money and there would be less debt

disadvantage:
some people 100k and up might feel it was unfair

yes I see that. I should have done basic research on that, apologies to all. Virtually the same figure I mentioned is already there. Maybe I even heard this at some point and then forgot about it.

why the difference here between 75K and 99K ?

There would be 40 pages of venom, outrage and shouts of socialism.

Above $75,000, the amount of the payment was reduced 5% for everything above. The $1,200 was fully phased out (reduced to $0) at $99,000.
