if they are lining up for food, there would be a good chance they cant make car payments and the car wil be repossessed.
OR they would have sold their car and trade down to a cheaper model and use the extra money to buy food.
if they dont have money for food, they probably cant make mortgage payment of their home and will be homeless and live in their car, they need the car more than they need a home, you can always sleep in a car, park in WMT parking lot and look for a job and go t o the food bank, you cant drive a home.
Long ago I met a man who likes to give his children money to buy a home,he said then you dont have to pay rent.
His friends said why do that?they can get a mortgage and get tax deduction?
But think,no one can throw you out of your home,if you can keep up with property tax and you dont need homeowner insurance if you cant afford it,if yo lose your job,you feel lousy, but you come home ,at least you have a roof over your head.
while you are gainfully employed, you could save more as you dont have to pay rent !
