Why did the U.S. stock market not crash in response to the Insurrection of 2021 yesterday? It seems like the market should price in the safety of democracy, upon which the institutions are based and secured.

Ummm...

maybe because the riot occurred after the market closed, and the market hasn't opened yet today?

While I am opposed to violent protests for any reason, and find yesterday's violence disturbing, it will not affect my investment strategy. I made no changes in investments when Donald Trump was elected in 2016, and now that Joe Biden will become president, and the Democrats have gained control of the Senate, I will not be making any changes in 2021 either.

Very little affects the market these days. It is momentum driven now without regard for things such as unemployment numbers, shutdowns, or p/e ratios. The only thing that might affect it now would be interest rate increases, but the Fed said that won't happen for a couple of years. Also, many have already received the $600 stimulus, and I would think those who don't need it to live in are doing what they did with the last stimulus -- putting it in the market.

While I didn't change my investment strategy, I DID change my estate strategy. I gave away a boatload of money in the final days of 2020 as I expect the new Democrat-Unified federal government to unify behind concepts such as eliminating or massively reducing the gift tax rules.

Because it wasn't an insurrection of any real depth, meaning or plan. It was instead mostly disorganized mob action.

Was just a bunch of idiots on the loose. Why would the market crash? They could’ve been cleared out if the police had done their job properly.

It wasn't something to the level that wasn't totally unexpected or considered a real threat. It wasn't a real black swan. After all the real protesting and looting with molotovs and all, they looked like of bunch of weekend warriors on a day trip.
