At a nice Italian supermarket on Long Island, Tuna filets are almost $30/lbs. All the nice cuts of fish have gone up like $5/lbs. But I its a fully staffed store.

Man, do people have NO critical thinking whatsoever?

1) Smartphones are ubiquitous. Everyone has them. Homeless people have them. People in Afghanistan have them. That someone has a smartphone means nothing about their financial situation.

2) Cable TV? What is this, 1996? I have not had cable TV for 8 years, and I held onto it for several years more than I otherwise would have because the company gave it free when packaged with internet. People don't watch cable anymore.

3) Starbucks? Have you ever seen a standalone Starbucks store in a poor neighborhood? I am a proud SBUX shareholder, my largest individual stock position, because I like their products, I think they are a well-run company and that stock has performed very nicely for me so far. Starbucks knows who their customers are - their most loyal customers go to their stores about 5x a month, is in their low 40s, has a median family income of around $85k and at least 2 college degrees in the family. Starbucks target customers are not low income people. Pun intended - Target and Starbucks have a lot of crossover in their customer base.

I dont have a smart phone,I have landline, and it works for me,when Nicholas hit and we have no electricity,my landline works fine .
You would be surprised people still have cable,I used to have cable but switched to Sling Blue for less, but it is not as reliable as cable(Kinetics) .
This thread is not targeting poor people, people who make $35k A YEAR in a poor neighborhood, most folks on this forum are not poor.
Food is my last worry,I shop in 5 supermarkets,I know where to get the best price.
Ever wonder why Asian eat pig ear,pig tail, pig feet, pig innards, pig liver, pig stomach, pig blood ?because they are cheap.
Never understand why sliced pig ears are so popular?the Asian shoppers cant get enough of them at the Chinese deli?

People greatly overestimate what percentage of the average American is food, and they tend to notice commodity-based upward price swings but not the downward.

Hogs are currently selling for 86 cents a pound. When pork shoulder was 99 cents, hogs were selling for 45 cents a pound. That's enough profit, so why would it make you suspicious?

I decided to try to make barbacoa - a mexican roast i guess you could call it, made from beef cheeks.

The last time I thought about it, the meat was 4.99 a lb. I bought some this week and it was now 6.99 a pound.

I bought 2 packages of Simple TRUTH boneless chicken meat,2 for 1 deal and I just fixed one with veggies, served with brown rice,I would say this meal cost me less than $3,I ate it in 2 settings-lunch and dinner.
my labor is free.
I think you can eat BETTER and cheaper if you are willing to shop and cook your own meals.
I would like to be adopted by a traditional family where the homemaker prepares dinner for the family, real home cooking and eat with them,I am willing to pay generously .

NATURAL gas price keeps rising and will rise more going into winter.
Freight will add to the prices of most goods on the shelf,as merchants are paying 3x the regular rate,WMT has chartered its own freighter to bring goods in .

This is a perfect example.

Someone takes one product, a commodity based product, and talks about it as if it some metric of overall inflation. Average household income is what $70k, who much of that do you think is spent on beef cheeks?

Btw, barbacoa isn't traditionally made with beef cheeks, it's made with mutton.

The cost of services have made a huge leap the last year. The cost of getting somebody to work on your house or car has risen sharply. The non-tangible goods and services are where the cost rose the most due to the amount of printed money has been given out to larger amounts of people.
