The government did not want to disrupt normal capitalist activities which resulted in the loss of 6,000+ Human lives which could have been prevented.

Tolls were operating normally up to several minutes prior to the flash flood, in which the 4 Kilometer Tunnel was flooded within only 5 minutes. All of the commuters in the Tunnel are presumed to be deceased.

The local municipal government had at least 5 hours of advanced warning this would occur and simply declined to act. Additionally, the CCP is itself responsible for unlocking the Dam upstream which would have inevitably led to this either 1 or 2 days prior.

All public outrage of the event has been silenced on all Chinese social media networks and sites.

That’s just a sad tragedy all around. Sick really.

I read a book about authority and it’s interesting how far people in certain cultures will actually go in following it. Following “the rules” until the end.

In one of his books, Malcolm gladwell had a section on authority and pilots. In pairs of pilots, they often have an older pilot training a younger one. They found that more deaths occurred while the older, more experienced pilots were flying. The reason? The older pilot isn’t afraid to step in and question or override a young pilot whereas a young pilot is more willing to defer to authority to the point they will continue to let the veteran pilot make an error that’s potentially catastrophic.

You see the same thing with Latin America and Asia pacific. Their planes had much higher death rates. There was example of a plane running out of fuel because the pilot was from South America and his language was too soft and he would continually defer to authority. They circled for many minutes until finally running out of fuel. If it was an American pilot, they most likely would have been far more aggressive to mission control about circling around again or possibly even outright defied orders knowing how dangerous the situation was. After those studies, foreign pilots were given much more training on assertiveness and following up again if their concern isn’t addressed.

That’s been the case through most of human history.
