I don't think military spending is the root cause of our overspending.
Much could be done IF we stopped supporting lesser countries, as those governments usually misuse funds anyway.
We being"big brother" to the world has to stop.
Charity begins at HOME.
Now, I will say, our military spending has ramped up to pay a good salary to soldiers, whereas wheny father was in the army, he received little. He was fed, housed and clothed "free" with a small stipend.
"If the army wanted you to have a wife and family, they would have issued you one", an old joke, but true.
Nowadays it can be routine for a soldier to make $80k/yr while in the service.
Many, upon re-entering society have complained that they can't make in civilian life what they were making In the service. And that's not new news.
Not to mention the ad nauseam veterans benefits they get, even in the private civilian life.
Stores giving a 5% discount, veteran only parking spaces closer than the handicap parking (a few disabled vet would be getting the handicap parking permits, but a 24 yr healthy vet can hop out of his car, skip into the store, while a disabled person with a walker or cane has to park further away, makes no sense.
(To clarify, I'm not a veteran, and not by choice. I went to enlist in the air force, but when the health screening came, I wasn't accepted because of asthma)
We need to stop supporting other countries, and stop fighting other countries wars for decades on end, and go back to military script pay.
