For instance, I live in the Boston area. Since I was not lucky enough to buy 5 years ago - or even 2 years ago - an average starter home an hour from work is at least $500,000 - and realistically, probably more like $600,000.
You can't find a starter home anywhere in the Boston CSA for less than $500,000?

You may be better off working from home and moving farther out.

So imagine a couple (or single parent) with a baby making 150k a year (or less!)

You mean - like nearly everyone?

Now imagine you own the daycare and a customer wants to pay you less than others pay, perhaps less than it costs you to provide the service, because they have a low paying job or a high mortgage.

Why shouldn't they pay the same as everyone else???

Imagine going to the grocery store to buy a gallon of milk. You're in the checkout line, and the person in front of you also is buying a gallon of milk. The checkout clerk charges the person in front of you $2.15 for her gallon of milk. Once it is your turn, the checkout clerk charges you $4.99 for the same gallon of milk.

You: "Wait. The person in front of me only paid $2.15 for the same brand of milk."
Clerk: "Yes, but we charge you more because you have a higher income."

Well then this could be why people have less kids than they once did or none at all. Maybe you're happy about that?

I do know a few people who had just one child mainly because they are obsessed with their careers. they never said anything about daycare but I know they paid a lot and it seemed like once a week there was a call from daycare to come pick up the kid because he was sick again. So then husband/wife had to decide who would leave work to pick up kid and kid usually had to stay home the next day which meant so did mom or dad.

Paying thousands a month for daycare isn't the same as milk prices. And it's possible to find milk for cheaper prices if you look around. Not always the case with daycare. I would sometimes see run down homes offering daycare services in bad neighborhoods run by people from Hatiti or Cape Verde. Maybe those are cheaper than the average daycare?
