BAHAHAAHA restart the dollar about 15 mintues after this happen's all america's material assets will be sold off for dirt cheap to the emerging world and most of it's professionals would be going along with it.
Some interesting but quite liberal points have made. Yes many US jobs are dependent on the energy industry, but so are the economies of many countries. (Thats why Chavez took over the oil companies, he needed the money to fund his programs). Windfall taxing oil or other profitable companies wont really help. When companies make more money they build/expand creating more jobs.
As for veg oil burning vehicles, I don't care for the odor they emit and will they be able to meet the environmental emission specs...many companies are looking into this but with out government subsidies it doesn't payout.

We all should be using Diesel , but , then , that will just raze the price of the fuel. The main reason diesel is so expensive , is that the transportation industry uses it almost exclusively. There are surcharges that are in place to compensate the truckers. They would fold with out it. When the price goes up ( weekly computed ) , the surcharge kicks in. Its at about 50 per cent of the transport cost right now, to move a product. ( freight bill ).
Look for CNG as the new fuel , for cars. ( for the interim ) getting fueling stations in place will be the challenge. T. Boone Pickins , is spear heading a move to CNG, watch for a lot more from Him on this , in the coming weeks , and months.
The reason diesel is so expensive is that there are rapidly developing economies and infrastructure being built in places like China, India and Brazil that compete for the fuel. Its not just the US and Europe doing the purchasing now.
What the government should do is create a national fuel standard that does not have regional boutique grades of gasoline. This would make it easier (and cheaper) to produce and transport finish product to markets. CNG is not a bad idea although it will take time.
CNG has been around a long while. there are a lot of industries that use it. private fleets, truck stops , shopping malls ( stationary power ) , City , county , Federal governments , etc. CNG will work in both diesel and gas engines , with minor modifications. We have plenty of it right here in the US. NG is the preferred fuel for power generation , in non-Utility applications. We should have been going down that road long ago , as relates to increase use of NG and CNG, in non heating uses. Diesel is , today , 7.00 a gal. in Canada , and , pushing 5.00 here in the US.
Gasoline is not as safe as CNG. From the refinery to the tank farm , to the consumer, CNG displaces into the atmosphere , gas does not. The combustible nature of todays gas , is scary , more harmful to the environment , and , more costly to produce. NG and CNG is plentiful in our land. We need to find alternatives , instead of taking the easy route , with tried and proved products. Thats why , every time the price of oil goes down ,all alternatives , get pushed further back on the priority .The sacrifices must be shared by all , its a big job , but , its time to get started. The Government must lead the way , as other Countries have , like Brazil. CNG may not work in some of vehicles , but , in larger vehicles it can , for now. I would much rather see CNG out there than LP , which IS leaver than air. It is a product that is here now , with only a better distribution plan that is needed, for it to be widely used. T. Boone Pickens , DOES have a good idea , just not an easy one , as loading up with Unleaded at the corner store. Every car going down the road is an inferno waiting to happen. We need to GET OFF GASOLINE , as a fuel , its not needed. Diesel is much safer , as are alternatives., and , less expensive to produce, better millage , and produces no carbon Monoxide. A combo , of CNG , and diesel , would go a long way in making this country less oil dependent.
