Andy Grove makes some good points. I especially like the idea that electricity is not easily exported and can be generated from a variety of different sources.

I like electric cars, and I think they are the future, but we need power plants to power them. Obama is against clean coal and nuclear, two excellent choices. Where will we get the electricity needed to power these cars?
The big issue is battery technologies... these cars thus far are severely limited by range and recharge times. Unless revolutionary breakthroughs are made we will continue with hybrids (still fueled by something else) or need a trillion dollar infrastructure to enable quick battery swaps.

You guys should have been watching CSPAN 2 on 6\23\2008 They had a congressional hearing on electric cars. The potential is HUGE. They showed how many wind mills it would take to power all electric cars in America (assuming they all replaced today's cars). It is very doable to say the least.
I thought the car had broken down and Intel was pushing it, literally..LOL We already have electric cars, Neighborhood electric vehicle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but they are not that great, yet. There would be a lot of heavy-metal pollution from spent batteries, but the air would be so much cleaner.

That's what happens when lawyers run the country not engineers.
Environmentalists are against that too. Just this week, they stopped the construction of a solar farm in the Arizona desert to conduct a 2 year research into the environmental impact of solar panels. These people who have hijacked the Democratic party won't be happy until we are living in caves again and 5 billion people worldwide have died.
The article is spot on. My gas budget is just slightly over $100/month so my break even point on an electric conversion is really far out. But when this car has gone as far as it can I hope to replace it with an electric one.
Looking at the compaints on hybrids from owners ;we are along way from elctric cars.
