I am trying to gain some prospective on our current situation and have noticed our media's very bias approach to everything.

The Presidency - slanted towards Obama
The War - anti-Bush
The Housing Market - negative
The New Mortgage Changes - completely oblivious
The "Rescue Bill" - nondescript
The Failing Banks - Picking off banks one-by-one

And the list can go on and on.

Do you think that it is all about ratings and that our country has become so programmed that we don't want to hear truth or positive turn of events? Is there is an entity out there "paying" the media to project their opinion on the American People? Is it an international conspiracy? Or is there a theory I'm missing

Basically, The Media is the liberal voice used to strike fear into the masses, so people will spend money on things you don't even need, and the Liberals, like Al Gore, make money off of your fear, I saw An Inconvenient Truth and all of the data about "global warming" such as the hockey-stick graph has been scientifically debunked. So DON'T pay attention to the media, because it can ruin you financially, and most certainly try to make you a brainless liberal.

If you are at all interested in what I have to say, you should read Ann Coulter's books:
Treason
Godless: The church of liberalism
how to talk to a liberal (if you must)
ann, If democrats had any brains, they'd be republicans

There is no order to which you have to read them, but I can assure you, if you at all like what I have to say, you will love all of her books.

Without getting too politcal... I don't need the news to tell me what is going on with my life as an American. All I need to do is look at my wallet... look at my industry... look and my friends and family and neighbors and they project a pretty clear picture.

The Presidency- Most of my family and friends agree that the economic policies of the last 7-8 years have not been kind. Any gains made in afflencancy and lifestyle have been lost to job loss, and inflation. They are looking for change... from either candidate.

The War- Most of the people in my life have supported the war, although not completely understood what the terms of victory are... or what it would take to acheive them. Even those who were staunch supporters, are scratching their heads admitting they thought things would be tied up a few years ago. That's what they were told... that what they were sold on.

The Housing Market- in my neighboorhood has been the worst period since 1995 (and things were bleak then). Although there aren't a large collection of foreclosures, the high cost of living, job loss, and lack of activity are driving prices downward. I'm not certain what that means on a national level but there is very little positive spin right now to project in my local market. Obviously there are some good deals out there... however if you could get the financing, there other expenses including a large energy bill attached to that home (30% higher than last year) that makes things a bit more uncomfortable than they were in the past.

New Mortgage Changes- Although the changes in the mortgage industry have been mostly for the better, regs have tightened up so far that most working professionals are having a hard time qualifying for loans. Banks are justifyingly requesting larger downpayments, which makes anyone in this marketplace uneasy... if you don't know where your job will be in 6 months, and need your savings as a liferaft. I have two friends, couples in their early 30's, decent income and good credit that have been shot down for mortgages on less than median priced homes because their finances wouldn't qualify. Simply said... 7-10% downpayments in a midpriced $400K market have outpriced many first time buyers.

Rescue Bill- I can't comment on... I don't know of anyone who is a recipient or in a position to receive benefits from the Rescue Bill. However I know a few who may be on the verge.. due to job loss and increased inflation.

The Failing Banks- Freddie Mac and Fannie Mac are huge concerns... Indy Mac was something you wouldn't have expected two years ago, and still shocking Bear Sterns collapsing all indicate that we are living in a very differn't economy from 5, 10 or even 15 years ago. Yes, the sky isn't falling, but it's a safe bet to know where your umbrella is....

Again, all I have to do is look at my wallet, my family and my friends to gauge how well our country is performing. Again I hesitate to talk about politics... I believe pretty strongly it's politics (on both sides)that has gotten this country into the mess it currently in. If you had asked me 10 years ago if I could have forecasted that we would be facing the incredible domestic challenges we face today I would have answered no... we were the largest superpower in the world and a banking giant. People blame globalization... I have other opinions.

I was a registered republican for 17 years. In 2006 I re-registered independent. I owe no alliegence to either party.

As far as the Coulter recommendation... if you rely on a pundnit to tell you what your wallet, brain, eyes and ears can't, well then I hope the advice you gleen guides you to a decision that lies within your best interests.

Actually there's some 28,000-odd media outlets in the US (television stations, cable stations, satellite stations, radio stations, newspapers, magazines, book publishers, music publishing and internet providers) and 37 white guys and a black guy own all of them.

are far as the housing rescue bill goes. it looks good on paper but will help less than 10%. it is designed to help banks, not people.
