Watch your newspapers when holidays get closer, they will be chucked so full of ads like never before, retailers are indeed desperate, the mentality of holidays has become spend, spend, spend, oh heck put it on plastic, they have been sliding downhill for a couple of years but this could verywell take it's toll on several, but you know wally world will survive and possibly gobble up a few competitors.
I concur with a lot of what has been said about Christmas. Heck, what has happened to Thanksgiving? It seems like retailers want to get the Christmas stuff out right after Halloween! Pump up the buying frenzy seems to me to be the message.
I was at Lowes yesterday to pick up some insulation and noticed they've already fully-stocked their Christmas section. They were ready to go on October 1st. Amazing.

This is the christmas when we make a lot of our gifts. I am just coming off unemployment to a new job and we definitely don't want to be spending a lot. My family thankfully is not very materialistic anyway. To me it is a religious holiday foremost.
I have noticed that the retail around here is not on holiday hiring binges either. Many are just plain old not hiring. I have NEVER seen that in my lifetime.
Actually Thanksgiving is my fave holiday. Gotta wonder how those day after Thanksgiving sales are gonna be this year?
