I am 26, and I use it because I don't want my details sprayed about, plus my serious lack of independence. I'm still at home.

And the joke in poor taste is far more accepted then what I see on the blasted news. Bloody Fannie and Freddie and whatever else, I'll throw them out the damm window.

So "spray" your mother's details about...very nice.

And NO, that joke was NOT and is NOT far more accepted than, not "then," anything on the news and it has NOTHING to do with Fannie or Freddie. It was disgusting.

I agree with UKOK.

So what should I do? Be more independent, get a credit card, then spend the crap out of it making debt? Be like most other people.

You can be more independent without getting a credit card. Be like most people and stand on your own two feet...and learn some tact while you're at it. There are plenty of people who AREN'T in debt.

You commented you don't want your details sprayed about....not even exactly sure what you mean by that, but why is it OK to do it to your mother?

Mine and hers would be safe. But I've heard too much about ID fraud.

Can you imagine if someone ripped off £50,000 using my name and everything. The banks would want me to pay the money back. Very stressful.

It's okay, Movie Lover. You're doing just fine. Stay at home and use your mother's debit card. If it works, and your mother's happy with that, then so be it.

You do realize that just because you get a credit card does not mean you have to charge up a storm on it, don't you?

I use my card because of the rewards and the convenience. I use it constantly and track every penny. When my bill comes in the mail I pay my current balance online, which is often more than they were asking for since I've charged since the bill was printed. I haven't had a finance charge or a fee in twelve years.

A long-lasting unsecured credit card account or three with no fees/charges paid and a perfect payment history is an important element in building a strong credit history. You are still in control. Don't buy more than you can pay off when the next bill comes in, simple.

I will watch for these cancellation notices as I fall into the category of having accounts I haven't used in years.
