Hello all,

Been away from the forum for a while, Good to be back.

Crisis hitting my industry hard...I work for an entertainment co. which works with hotels in the NY,NY area. Since this all began, Our industry has relied on foriegn tourism as the Euro was strong for a while. Now that this is going global, Layoffs are beginning. I also read that several Broadway shows are closing at year's end. I think this may be the beginning of the end. Anyone else work in Hotel/Tourism? And what are you seeing in the industry, either here or elsewhere. I hope this dosen't get banished to the doomer thread, And it's good to be back...

D.Scott

Im in Luxury retail in a high end mall in Tampa. Things are definitely below plan by about 10-20%, which is better than I thought we would be doing. But the sales people (I work in the back office) are discounting most things by 10-25% which is something we have never had to do, so our margins are down. Our company is in an hiring/raise freeze. We are safe through Christmas, after that...???

Medium sized hotel/casino in Las Vegas.....business is down in both the hotel and casino divisions BUT we are experiencing the 2nd best year in the history of the hotel.....only behind last year [which was 24% above the prior year].....we are finally having to WORK for our business instead of just sittin back and letting it flow in.

My hotel job totally sucks! I am not receiving any tips whatsoever. I guess people can't afford to give two dollars any more. I sooo wish I could get a job closer to me(Summerlin), but as usual no one is hiring.

if gas prices keep going down, the skiing resorts may not be hit that bad because people are gonna wanna get away from it all, if the gas prices go down and stay down

It will be bizarre if gasoline prices drop below $2/gallon nationwide but attention focusing on jobs and keeping them. What will we get hit with after that? Inflation?

My sister works with hotels in OC for the CA state tourism board. After staying at a beachfront hotel over a weekend recently I commented to her about how empty the place was and she told me the business is getting hammered out here.

I work in hotel sales in Denver. So far, our occupancy for the year has been about average. We are down about 10% for October. We're certainly keeping an eye on next year, as it is expected to get worse.

I was reading an article today, and the general expectation in the hotel industry is that travel will slow down, but will not slow down all together. Here in Denver, the hotel industry has been BOOMING for the past few years with the addition of several new hotels. I'm not expecting to see a whole lot of new hotel construction over the next year or so.

Hang in there, guys! The next couple years may be tough, but we'll make it through!
