customer service is getting pretty bad everywhere. i went to target yesterday and there was a girl who was talking on the phone to her friend and would not wait on customers, even with a long line backup for after halloween discounts and only one check out open! if these stores go under it really is there own fault, but i do feel sorry for those people who put 100% into their job because they are being hurt by the slackers.

I find this lack of customer acknowledgement rampant at many retailers. My kids laugh when I talk about buying shoes in a store where they actually waited on you and were interested in how the shoes felt! ps I am under 50

It isn't only Circuit City that is closing...I heard that the biggest franchiser in hairsalons who also owns the most salon them self are laying off workers at HQ and are clsoing 160 salons....I know more people work at Circuit City than in a salon...but if a recession proof business as they called it, is firing employees.....

The CEO said that they would do it if Obama would be president since they expect the stock market to plunge and the economy to be bad under Obama!

The employees were too busy playing video games to help the customers and when one would ask for help they'd get upset and say "can't you see I'm playing here?". If that store goes out of business then they get what they deserve. Right after leaving the store I wrote to the national office online and never got a reply. Guess they were too busy playing games "dude".
I recently went to get a battery for my Verizon phone and hovered around the Verizon stand (or whatever you call it) while the man seemingly helped another customer. Well after standing there a while I asked a Circuit City worker where I could get a battery and she said I had to get it there (Verizon). So I go back over and look at some phone while waiting for this guy to finish.

He finally asks me if I need help. I say yes I'm waiting for him to finish. He says "Oh, these aren't customers, they're just wasting my time". Apparently the young ladies I thought he was helping were just sitting around chatting with him.

This guy saw me when I first came in and stood there and never acknowldeged me or asked to help me until I asked someone else in the store. When he told me they didn't have batteries for my phone anymore and tried to sell me another one, I told him I'd find one online as I was walking towards the door.

I hope these retailers go back to hiring ADULTS at a living wage to perform these jobs they foist on teenagers and "college students" who just don't give a crap!

So they are just shutting down immediately today? No going out of business sales? I did the store locator and none of the CC's show up in Kansas City anymore. They are all literally closed as of today now?

I have a local hardware store and a Home Despot available. At home despot I ask for an item and I get "try isle 12". At the hardware store I get, "Hi Greg, we moved that thing. It is in isle 5 halfway down on the right" or “I’ll show you."

Guess where I buy hardware?

I actually went into a HD last week, and for the first time, I had employees all over escorting me to every aisle / item I was looking for. Needless to say i was in a state of shock!

That’s the policy that ruined Sears, Macys and hundreds of other retail chains. They hire kids who just want a pay check and nothing other. In the end their service stinks. Some years back and on my wedding day I went into Macys to buy a pair of causal shoes for our honeymoon cruise. I knew what I wanted so I went over to the local Macys department store in Paramus NJ just to buy them. It was as easy sale for the shoe department and the salesperson would make an easy commission. I saw four or five guys standing around talking to each other. I kept waiting for some one to help me. Its not like I can hide being 6 feet 3 in but no one seemed interested in helping me. I walked out and went over to Nordstrom. A sales person came up to me in less then thirty seconds and asked me if he could be of assistance. His service was excellent and showed me three pairs of casual shoes I was looking to buy. I ended up paying three times the price but was completely happy when I walked out. I can't always afford to shop there but because they have a deep respect for their customers I will always consider them first any time I am shopping for an item. As for Macys, they need to clean up their act. They need to fire some of these dumb kids and hire adults.

Here is the list of Circut City stores that are closing. I'm just happy the one by me in our semi new mall is staying open. Whew..... Already an empty big box coming there once Linens n Things closes.

Their stock is up. The closures are a restructuring so that they can stay out of bankruptcy. Not a bad thing, if you ask me. As far as putting people out of work -- if you work at a Circuit City, there's lots of available jobs in your area of expertise because it's not like they really require a lot of education or skill to work there.
