bxlefty23, I 100% agree with you, any investment that as a fairly good rate-of-return will have some risk involved, but people either don't understand or ignore the risk. It is no different that people looking at houses as investments, yes you can make fairly substantial return, but there is also risk involved. In general I believe society is headed towards not taking personal responsibility for themselves as they either want to blame others or have the government take control. I hope I am wrong.......

No Obamaite or D, but this whole thread begs the question . . . .

Is everyone on this thread SO stoopid as to not understand this was some otherwise pointless testimony to a rather pointless subcommittee? Happens daily including topics as important as Space Aliens. Congress is supposed to hear different points of view.

There is no "plan" or secret schemes going on.

Understanding new thoughts or looking at differing perspectives does not have to be a scary thing. This same "article" is being circulated among Reich Wanger operations and some business types to scare the masses of (dumb) asses.

BOO!

Gosh, yes, most of us do understand a little. We didn't accumulate all that wealth we're now worried about keeping by being "stoopid."

Understanding doesn't mean liking or supporting, and Obama and the Dems have mentioned 401ks numerous times. They are open to options, so yes, this proposition will be considered, since it has some liberal support, and leaders (read: a Democratic Congress) capable of passing a massively ineffective bailout bill are absolutely capable of committing even greater acts of unprecedented stupidity. They clearly think that some people are incapable of taking care of themselves-- and the housing crisis and election results clearly show that to be true-- but those of us who can, and expect to, retire without any government help don't need ANY government intervention, either.

Recent acts and interventions have shown the American government willing to trample civil liberties, socialize private losses and undo centuries of capitalism. We have elected a socialist to our highest office to lead in tandem with a liberal Congress. They want to break boundaries in redistributing wealth to mandate their personal agenda of change, so NOTHING is off-bounds. Anybody with any sense would know that what was unthinkable yesterday could be law tomorrow. Your point doesn't have a lot of teeth, but you could have made it without being such a jerk about it.

How exactly do you know? Are you sitting in on meetings with Obama or congress? No? Are you sitting in Finance committee meetings? No?
So in all truth you know squat except you have a belief that it won't happen but no ACTUAL knowledge. Now taking into account that wackier ideas have been implemented from time to time and that they HAVE just recently been talking about taking 401k's wouldn't it just be common sense to believe that they just might do it? Personally I think it's stoopid to ignore the chance that it might happen 'cause then you'll be saying........
"Boo Hoo"...

Having a dialogue with yourself, now? Looks like this has gone from stoopit to nutzcase.

Hardly. Makes not a dime's worth of difference to me if 401K's come, go, or hit the paper shredder. I do not keep my money there, so I do not share your fantasy fears. But you seem to like your boogyman routines, so enjoy!

But overall this is pretty much just rancid political nonsense, has nothing real to do with business -- so how 'bout we demote this from the business section down to the politichole area where it belongs?

This is thievery, just plain thievery. Once the government gets it you can expect for them to use it. I wonder what the Obama lovers are saying now. It's liberal socialism. When the government goes belly up because of the up coming depression these poor people will never see a dime of their money.

Sorry to say, but it has everything to do with the business of the US Gov ! Which in turn has everything to do with big business and in turn had everything to do with Main St. business to the business located in ones basement.

The Gov is doing an awful lot of spending and has plans to spend even more. Just where do you propose ALL these funds are going to eventually come from ? SOMETHING has to back these funds the Gov is borrowing and spending ! This is nothing more than business 101...
