Let's see, would autoworkers rather have $2,000 in cash or a job? I would say a job!

Many people, including many on this thread just do not understand that there are millions of jobs at stake.

GM is dead, what we are trying to do is throwing good money to keep a brain dead company on life support. They need to restructure into a different business model with new labor contracts et all. Giving them money is the height of insanity.

Look, they've been screwing people out of jobs for years! My dad's one of them! Our family spent years worrying that our plant in Michigan would close (which it eventually did), moved to Tennessee hoping that things would get better, but again we constantly got to worry about what GM's plans for Saturn were. This last time that they offered early retirement my dad finally took it, which is a good thing, because apparently the plant's been closed a lot more often than it's been open lately.

Yeah, it's millions of jobs, but they've screwed plenty of people over for a LONG time.

Meanwhile, the Saturn Vue is apparently being made in Mexico now, when there's perfectly good auto workers in the states that could be making them.

I do not have much sympathy for GM as a company, sorry.

That 300 million should only include people who actually work for a living.

What happens to your dad's retirement funds when GM goes belly up?

perhaps we should call it money laundering instead of a bailout.

No clue. He's been back working full time somewhere else for about a year and a half now, so he didn't really get to "retire."
