The union is killing the active workers by protecting the retirees. One day, I'll retire too, but I'm doing all I can with the worst case scenario that I don't have Social Security, a wiped out 401K and no pension to rely on. If indeed the large part of the proverbial $70K is in benefits, then trim the benefits and leave the direct wages piece alone. Sadly, they won't budge on that one. I am against the bailout as it was presented but the demand to grant it was reasonable and the UAW became unreasonable with an all-or-nothing stance.

Really.....???

Wonder if you are aware that union representation in the PRIVATE sector is at an all-time low? Seems that the last 28 years of Republican dominated government has caused this; and REAL wages have been steadily declining while the costs of healthcare keeps going up!

Personally, I hope the UAW and other unions (there ARE others ya know?)that represent the auto workers stand THEIR ground!
