Polaroid was, once upon a time, a very interesting company. They were a research driven company that had a lot in common with Xerox and similar "high tech imaging" companies of the 70's & 80's. They made some wrong turns and the company was eventually "hollowed out" as just another 'former glorius brand' to slap on crap from China.

It is sad, but these things happen all the time.

I thought they were already out of business. I lived in the Boston area for 15 years, and at one time they were all over Cambridge and Waltham. They started closing down and shrinking in the 90's once the instant camera was replaced by digital. They went from a prominent member of the Boston business community to a shadow in just a few short years.

I think they've already been through bankruptcy once. Is there a three-strikes rule on bankruptcies? If not, there should be.

It just seems to me the board leaders should have had a meeting in the 90's and developed a camera with a portable photo developing docking station. I assume that alot of these companies boards must have old timers on it . They are just stuck in their 20th century ways and refuse to remain competitive in the 21 century

I always wondered why they never made a Polaroid printer for digital cameras. They could have used its nostalgic aspect to their advantage as well. It goes to show that once a company matures, its dead weight at the top impedes progress.
