Ouch! This is only the start of the collapse. Trusted financiers leveraged us into the pit. Good job guys.

And we still need to weather February !

Could be a long drought for the unemployed. It would be interesting to know how many have already dropped off the unemployment rolls, but I will bet an equal amount to what is claiming... then there are the 'under-employed'...

I wonder if the government will consider unemployment check extensions like they did for those of us who were employed by the airlines and laid off due to 9/11. I used one of the extensions, but was already working again when they gave the third extension. If this isn't done, then there will be a whole bunch of people in a mess when their unemployment runs out.

A CNN Money article today also mentions ING cutting 7,000 jobs.

Along the side of the article there is a list of the companies cutting jobs and the number they have cut so far in 2009 (that's just 26 days) and the grand total is already at 207,120. Yikes!

Bloody Monday: Over 71,400 jobs lost - Jan. 26, 2009

Can you believe loosing 71k jobs in just one day? The nation is in big trouble. For a while I thought a depression was not possible but now I think it’s inevitable.
