I got a lot of flack a few months back when I said I felt the Dow was headed for 5000. Then, the Dow was close to 9,000. Now that we are about 1/2 way to 5000, wondering if anyone else thinks 5K is a possibility?

It's funny how the posters who gave me the most flack no longer post here.

I see it by July

It's always possible...but I'm "guessing" high 5000s to low 6000s is more likely the bottom for the DOW. And high 500s to low 600s for the S&P. I hope it turns around before it gets that low, but you never know. Inflation will no doubt dilute the actual value of the dollar...and also the future value of the markets.

Yup, I think so. 5500 is my prediction.

I wonder if it'll go lower than that...

Someone is playing with the market, its up 230 points now for no reason whatsoever... I wonder how the government is manipulating the market, I can't think of anyone that has that kind of ability...

There's a reason that you can't think of anyone with the ability to manipulate the market. Care to guess what that reason is?

I don't know if it will go to 5000. But I got some flak when I moved all my 401K into cash (it was already 50% cash). That was when the Dow was at 8000.

The problem is that we are bang in the middle of earnings season and there just isn't a lot of good news out there. That means that - on the balance of probabilities - it is more likely to go down another 1000 points than it is to go up 1000 points.

I think it is the kind of bounce you get when some stocks look cheap. Go into the market, make some money and then come back out again. If we see 100+ point gains for 3 days in a row then that might point to some kind of recovery but I doubt that we will see that.
