This is an absolute outrage The lazy good for nothing state government is raising taxes at a time when the state is experiencing meltdown...this tax increase is going to reduce consumer spending and strain businesses even more, what are these fools thinking?

Instead of reducing the size of the government and cutting the programs that are not supported by available revenue what do they do...they increase taxes, like that is going to bring in more revenue, seesh!

This state is already the most business unfriendly state in the United States and now they just took another step backwards at a time when they should be encouraging and incentivizing businesses, especially small businesses so that they don't lay off more people or completely shut down altogether.

This is not going to end well!

Don't forget the state is not car friendly to begin with...

I can name at least a dozen antique auto restorers/collectors that have moved to Oregon or Nevada...

License Fees too high and not being able to buy necessary supplies tops the list plus very high sales taxes...

And how can we ever thank you (CA) enough for CARB

That monstrosity is a whole industry in itself, and one that could be done away with at 8 AM on Monday morning

Conservation can do more that CARB will ever dream of (Except line the pockets of autoshops / parts dealers / CARB employees...)

Where do you guys think California should get the money? It's already been proven they won't/can't work together to balance the budget.

Magic will fix it. Pure, rainbow-colored magic.

Just like my state...Washington State. Bloated budget. Governor won the election with no new taxes pledge. 'Cept now, she's looking at bonds. Bonds are intrinsically backed by taxpayers. Your normal Joe Schmoe thinks "Oooh! Magic bonds!" and that it will fix everything. Joe Shmoe is wrong.

Look at your average home price, $400k or something? Do you realize the income you need to afford that kind of house?

Here (NC) you can buy single family homes for $150k and that gets you 15 minutes from the capital and around 1500 sq ft in a decent neighborhood. $100k-$120k gets you a 1500 sq ft. home on the outskirts/country (30 minute commute). The wages needed to support living in our area of the country are SUBSTANTIALLY less than CA.

Raising auto fees! Horrors, we should RECALL the governor! Isn't that what Ahhnuld pushed when Grey Davis signed the bill to raise auto fees.

OTOH I think CA has more cars than people so taxing cars hits everyone.

EXACTLY! They think they can just raise taxes and generate more income. That is a false hope. They don't realize that when taxes are too high people rebel. For example they'll go to places where they pay no sales tax like a swap meat, farmers market or craigslist.

when taxes are too high, it stifles real wealth creation, resulting in lower tax revenues anyway. laffer curve folks. but we all know that government allocates capital (to themselves and the people that financed their election campaigns) better than individuals. I'm glad I don't live in that hell hole of a state. I reckon it'll be a total wasteland within a decade.
