I am very confused by this. Last year, I had income, my partner didn't. I thought that as we are in a legal CA domestic partnership, we would be able to file married/jointly on our CA state return, but NOT on the federal return. But after answering all the questions in TurboTax, telling it explicitly that we were in a domestic partnership and not a marriage, it generated a return which had us Married Filing Jointly, and taking the $10,900 standard deduction for married couples.

Is there something I missed, or are we actually allowed to file jointly? I will be seeing a tax advisor to figure out if I need to submit an amended return, but if anyone can provide a definitive answer before I can arrange it, I'd really appreciate it.
