This begs the question......"What is the common man/women to do simply to live ?"
Every man and woman for themselves. Lawlessness will prevail.
Those with morals will form sustainable, food-based communities like the one in Hardwick, Vermont. Families will have to come together around growing and harvesting their own food, and it's not going to be big beef anymore either.

In other words........"It will be life like the old days before ipods."
the truth is life is getting more complex not simpler..did you know world wide 1.3 million people a day have been leaving rural areas and farms and moving to cities.. there is a story about it in this months money magazine.
they are or will be putting big demands on all the good and services the world has to offer just to get elevated to what we here would call lower middle class.

That would be nearly 500 million folks per year, seems a bit (way) too high to me. Some of this though could be China's urban development policies, creating very large cities in short times, and mandating moves to the city.
could be non the less thats what the article says,,,,,, the us has only 9 cities with over 1 million people. china has 121 so they may be a very big part

Maybe ipods will develop to double as weapons
People should be getting to know their neighbors, seeing what kinds of resources like food growing, etc can be shared.
