I would like to know if any of you guys (or girls) could give me some advice on where to start if one had an idea for a new product and wanted to market it. I am an RN and my wife and I have an idea for a post surgical product that is simple, should be very cheap, and there is no current product equivilent. I thought about consulting a patent attorney but before I do this I wanted to do some research. I did some web searches but most of the hits were for scam or ripoff companies that claim to help you get a patent and sell your idea for a fee. Is it necessary to first consult an engineer to do schematics or drawings? How do you go about this without getting your idea stolen? What about marketing or contacting (medical device) companies.
I know, lots of questions, but if anyone has experience with this I would appreciate some direction.
