Each week I hit the store on Monday to buy sundries for breakfast & lunch, which cost about $40-50 and include:

-Kipper snacks (gave up Tunafish b/c of Mercury)
-Organic yogurt & cottage cheese
-Organic coffee creamer
-Oatmeal
-Mixed nuts
-Mix-1 drinks
-coffee
-Agave nectar
-Clif Z-bars
-Organic granola

I also have leftovers a few times a week from the previous night's meal.

I stay away from Lean Cusine and other such 'Frankenfood' (reading the ingredients requires a PhD in BioChem...LOL)

I just can't see going to the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch every day.

$2 sounds about right for me too. I also take leftovers from home and bring my own drinks as well.

I go to the canteen, so about $ 2-3 a day, except weekends, when I cook myself. Regards.

A pattern begins to emerge.

If you want to save money, an easy way to do it is to bring your lunch from home, either making it or bringing leftovers. When I forget or don't have time to make a sandwich and wind up having to go out I usually spend about $5.00 at Subway, which is a lot more than my homemade peanut butter and jelly sandwich costs.

There is an argument to be made that if you bring leftovers they are actually free because at least some of them would wind up discarded instead of being eaten.

So start bringing your lunch.

Probably around $2 a day as well. I bring lunch from home...turkey or chicken sandwich, a yogurt, and an orange/apple. I drink water from our break-room, so that's free. If I buy lunch in our cafeteria, I end up spending $5-6 for a sandwhich & a bag of chips...not worth it. Salad bar is even more expensive.

I find the idea of skimping on food to pay a mortgage (proverbially speaking) retarded. I spend around $7-$10 a day on lunch. The saying goes 1)Food 2) shelter and 3) clothing for a reason you know....
