I suppose y'all think this guy is a "kook," too. Let's see--leading investment banker to the oil industry. Father former head of Zion's National Bank in Utah.

If anybody should have a pretty good idea of the world energy picture--this guy should. As for the pipe dreams of many Coloradans about the future of oil shale and conventional ethanol production, Simmons said this in an interview with CNN Money:

Quote:
As for some other currently voguish sources of fuel coming to the rescue, he's dismissive. Oil shale? "Buck Rogers stuff. It just can't work." Ethanol? "It's a joke. The numbers just don't add up."
PS--I'm not going to comment further on Kunstler's current mental state--I don't know what it is. But, whatever it is, he seems more lucid on the subject of our economic/energy/financial crisis than most of the US public and most of the US government.

1969-70 were years when tens and tens of thousands of people were dying horrible violent deaths in Southeast Asia and other places. At times of so much agony in the world, we all feel it on some level, especially the more sensitive people, like Kunstler perhaps.

Anyway, that was a hell of a long time ago. Jeez. Give me a break. You can't be nuts and write like Kunstler does. Who else uses words like "patina" and stuff.

Back to back posts, huh? I know that's really nerdy but this is good fellow gloomers:

After about 14 months of recession, the Boulder Daily Camera has finally printed a "non-AP wire" story about the tough times (yes, this is the first locally reported "tough times" story in the Daily Camera since this downturn started in late 2007!!) (Please prove me wrong if you can.)

Well, whether you intend to read and weep, read and gloat, or just read and feel nonplussed, here's the link with the Boulder County gloom and doom:

There will be painful lessons learned by many Americans. We will be humbled by this economic crisis. Maybe that part is good.

On the subject of shale oil, it has been discussed for years. It's there, but it's costly to extract from the ground. At $150 a barrel it was worth a look, but at current prices it won't pay to bring it out. That "boom" is dead at the gate. Same for the Dakota boom.

A day after GM gets $6 Bn from the taxpayer funded TARP, they begin offering 0% loans and lower credit score requirement from 700 to 621.

GM, GMAC Ease Lending Standards

Congratulations, Colorado taxpayers, your tax dollars are now going to fund subprime auto loans to facilitate sales of inferior year-old Detroit products at a loss. That ought to improve things.

And unthanks to Senator Salazar, once again, for voting to authorize this continuing insanity.
