I can't help but think that we've all been taken for a ride by that slimy alliance of government and corporations, the big lie is being used by GM and others to facilitate the newest come on in the "recovery" hysteria that the media so loves. The effectiveness of propaganda is without an equal when it comes to creating "public opinion". The Nazi administration knew this when they entered into their partnership with Germany's largest corporations in order to produce their own fantasy wealth creation that made Hitler look like a savior. Here's the words of Joseph Goebbels one of the worlds most accomplished liars;
"“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
The "State" now includes the appendage of Wall Street, we'll never see the truth of this theft of our money any more than we've seen the truth of our own history with these gangsters that have hidden behind the charade of legitimacy that has been afforded them. Whether they walk the halls of Congress or the halls of corporate power one thing's for sure, they don't "serve" us.

The TARP inspector general, Neil Barofsky, bluntly told the Senate Finance Committee during a hearing last week that the repayment "is just other TARP money" and lawmakers should not "exaggerate" the feat.

All true... but don't think for a minuite the crooks are done yet. Their latest scheme is to force your IRA and 401K money into a govenment controlled program they can then hand over to their masters at Goldman and JP Morgan. By the time they are done they will steal all the peoples money. Do your homework and get educated before it's too late.

'the company has applied to the Department of Energy for $10 billion in low (5%) interest loan to retool its plants to meet the government's tougher new CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. However, giving GM more taxpayer money on top of the existing bailout would have been a political disaster for the Obama administration and a PR debacle for the company. Paying back the small bailout loan makes the new--and bigger--DOE loan much more feasible.
In short, GM is using government money to pay back government money to get more government money. And at a 2% lower interest rate at that. This is a nifty scheme to refinance GM's government debt--not pay it back!'
Basciallly what it shows is now much GM wants out from under governamnt has a partner like eveyone else that got the TARP maney. It really only shows what they thught the best course was with money;push governamnt out. One reason is because they want thier stock to go up and want to get other financing from investors that don't have the strings attched. It was easy to see with now Ford has out stripped them on progresss on becoming profitable. Ford like GM realises looking at their sales that how much of a truck and SUV company they still are and how important its is to maintain thier lead in that market segment. Govenment doesn't see things that way and has many specail interest motivating their control.Smart move by GM and it was even smater of Ford never to have taken the money but GM did have much of a choice.Poilitcal special interest should not have a seat on company broards if they want to be competitive in the world. They also realise that there are other growing markets in the world that they need to invest in and the maddeng crowd involved in politcs has no interest in the companies worldwide market share really.

what i find most offensive about GM is the fact that they think americans are stupid. i saw that commercial where the guy (whoever he is) says that "GM has paid back all of the money in full, 5 years ahead of schedule, with interest".
well, that is very interesting since GM lost money throughout 2009 so they must have never needed the money in the first place if they were able to pay it back that quickly with interest, or of course the logical alternative is that they never really paid all the money back with interest. they are only reporting a percentage of the money they borrowed in the first place.
at the same time they are "paying it back" they are also investing $136 million in the Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas.
the illusion of "paying the loan back" also helps to try to maintain the status quo in an election year. i imagine we are going to be hearing a lot of economic "good news" as the elections approach.
I was going to say, they put a lot of doubt into just how GM is paying that money back, if at all.
