Class projects are the tool of Satan.

It's a kind of law of the universe that one student always slacks, one student always does the bulk of the work, and one student always under-contributes.

The notion of class projects is fine, but the application is poor. Teams in the workplace seldom are allowed to operate like that, which is bad on unis since the whole point of groups in class is to orient people in how to collaborate on projects.

None-they never work out right .

Our kids had to do a class project a couple years ago. We had pretty much told them they had to do class projects together (twins) because of past history with other kids not doing the work, not being able to get together, etc. Well, one project came up and the kids had a choice to do it alone or with a partner. In order to do it with a partner they had to have a "permission" slip signed by the parents that stated their kids would be allowed to get together after school/weekends to complete the project. Well, DS signed up for a partner, a kid that we have known for a while, nice kid, good student we though it would be ok. Well, his parents wouldn't let him meet, ever, anywhere, to do the project so DS ended up doing it on his own. NEVER again.

Another vote for hating class projects, unless they truly are done in class. I am tired of being the parent on the hook for all supplies. I honestly though we were done, but even my grad school student has to do group projects!

I hate them. On the occasions that I had to do one, I preferred to work with someone who would follow my lead and do his/her share of the work ON TIME. Needless to say, that didn't happen very often.
