The other great thing about great teachers: All they truly need to feel like their life's work is worthwhile is to see progress in their children and kind words of thanks from the parents.

Good teachers provide a service beyond payment. They could obtain a better paying job with the skills needed to really teach well. But it isn't just that--they make it part of their whole life. How can you ever repay that? Thank for starting this thread. I think I may go write a letter to the high school teacher that made the most impact on me.
