I believe it's the same here in Michigan. Schools are penalized if they do not have 95% of their students taking the tests.

Okay....standardized test causes teaching to perform well on a test. Over the years our system have eliminated vital critical thinking and problem solving skills. The actual "passing" level on these test are very low to pass the kids through, so the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND mean that many students are still breezing through without the necessary skills of comprehension and solving basic arithmetic. Also....students just plain learn different. So, my son, who has ADHD, dyslexia as well as an auditory processing issues just doesn't do well in a regular classroom these days. And if he is able to hold it together for a whole day of bubbling in answers, he comes home and collapses in tears and frustration. Parent are so naive thinking it is best to trust the school system!

Believe it or not, in the real world, you do "standardized tests" every day.
If you can't finish the assigned job (which is often a routine job in nature), you get fired. Period.
