I am serious. The elites are a small segment of the population. If the larger segment is being led by them, they have decided to be led by them. If 10% of the population is elite and 90% isn't, the only way the 10% can lead the 90% is if they let them. They have numbers on their side and they can use them, if they choose to.

If the non-elites band together, they can change everything and the elites cannot stop them. They have voting numbers on their side. They would have to act as a unit though which is the very thing the elites tend to do. I find it sad that say 10% of the population can pull the strings. That only happens because the other 90% let them.

It's not like we're back in the day when you can't go to the library and research what you're going to vote on in November. You don't have to buy into every political slogan out there. Too many choose to but that is their choice and when they make it, they choose to hand power to someone else.

RememberMee is living in conspiracy theory land but conspiracy theory only really works if the masses accept it. Fortunately, for the elites, many of the non elites don't even bother to vote. That increases their power as long as they act in unison. If the non elites ever caught on to the fact that is all they need to do to change anything they want to change, you'd see a lot of change.

Yes.

There is far too much waste in public education.

Teachers are underpaid.

Bureaucrats are overpaid.

When your family budget is cut, the 1st thing you do is cut excess spending. Cut the fat. Put unnecessary spending on hold.

You don't spend $500 BILLION DOLLARS on a High School, as they did in LA.

I'm sorry, but I don't have any problem with education budgets being cut.

There is a lot of fat that can be cut from this thread as over half of it is ranting and doesn't pertain to the OP. Let's focus, regroup and reflect. Take a breather and stay on topic.

I think discussion of budgets is completely relevant to topic.

I wasn't talking about the budget per say. More so the back and forth ranting, going round and round pointing fingers. At the end of the day there will be "good" and "bad" in any state. There are very good public school districts (performance wise) in even the "bad" states. Not to mention what one defines as "value" as well as "quality education" can differ as well. I value opinions and take it all with a grain of salt. Its when a thread turns in back and forth bickering that it becomes irrelevent to the op.

Not.

Numbers on their side? Really?
Let me suggest something a tad stronger than that: BOMBS!
That should take care of the numbers, just in case "the numbers" would somehow decide to wake up from the media-induced anesthesia.

But the anesthesia is working, so no need for bombs.

With all due respect, your view is painfully naive.

How does this "fortune" happen? Have you noticed how "fortunately" things usually work out for the elites?

I don't think the elites have bombs aimed at the non elites . Other countries may have them aimed at us but the elites don't.

The non elites would be a force to be reconded with if they acted in unison as the elites tend to do. That's the only real difference between the elites and the non elites. One acts as a group in it's own best interest and the other doesn't.

And it's your view that is naive. Power lies in numbers. When the largest segment of the population won't even get out and vote, they hand their power away. I can't change a thing by myself but when I stand with numbers on my side, I can. Trust me. If you get enough people demanding something, it will happen.

It's "fortunate" for the elites because they could not hold power against the masses if they acted in unison. Two things about human nature. We tend to protect what we have yet blame others for what we don't have. So the elites protect their status while the non elites whine about how the man keeps them down never realizing that they hold the keys. It's not the elites running things. It's the non elites letting them run things. Of coures, the elites aren't complaining. That's what makes them elite.
