He's right.

There are 100,000's of thousands of graduates with worthless degrees owing 100's of billions of dollars.

Will the fed bail them out? (my son included)?

Non merit based financial is the culprit. Seriously, if you have a poor GPA (under 3.5), maybe you aren't a good investment. Okay, I understand that the scale will change from region to region.. but you get the idea. We can't just throw money at everyone who gets into a college. Especially if you're going to university of pheonix because you had a 2.5GPA in highschool.

Almost all of my expenses were paid by scholarships from the school and other private organizations. Education is affordable to those who work hard for it.

This is in general false, though some schools set things up like this the vast majority of universities do not. Most of the time a BS simply represents that the degree is in one of the sciences. A degree in Physics doesn't set you up for a job any better than a degree in Philosophy....

What about vocational colleges?
We do need better plumbers and more of them.
There are so few, that they are unreasonably expensive.
Same goes for contractors in general.

It's generally supposed to be true. A BS in Physics will set you up better for a job than a BA in physics. BS degrees are supposed to cover applied sciences.

Some liberal arts schools deviate from this, but if you look at any top tier school, this holds true.

How much does a plumber cost? A lot of people shy away from such jobs for some reason. I hear of people wanting to be car mechanics, but never a plumber.

How much a plumber makes I can say something about.
A plumber with five years experience has a median income of 50k a year.
A lot of construction and installation professions have a salary range between 50k and 80k.
If there were more qualified professionals, the field and business would become more competitive. Prices would slowly be pushed down.

But then their income would go even lower than $50k

They would need to work more and do a better job to be paid the same, which is the point.

This is true in an university that has a BA/BS distinction in science degrees, but this usually isn't the case. In most American universities a "BS" is used for degree programs that are in the sciences and/or related to the sciences and a "BA" is used for non-science related degree programs.

There is no consistency on this matter in American universities, hence what you're saying is in general not true.
