So...the job wants to pay for me to get my HR certificate. Problem is they reimburse and I dont happen to have an extra $1000 laying around to pay up front. I tried to go through Sallie Mae to get a small loan that I could pay back once I finish the course. However, the school would not certify my loan because it's not a "degreed" program.

I am beyond frustrated. Does anyone know of any student loans that do not require school certification? Any other ideas?

Do you have a low interest credit card you could put the payment on and then pay it off when you get reimbursed. It would cost you the interest though.

You can also get a line of credit from a bank or credit union for personal use. Student loans aren't usually available for continuing ed. Anyway, if the company is going to reimburse, there isn't much benefit to student loans over the other methods, depending, I guess, on your credit.

I agree-get a line of credit from your bank--you should have one anyway. Most will give you $1000-5000. Also, talk to the financial aid office where the course is held and ask if you can wait to pay until your company reimburses you. Most will work with you on that-maybe set you up on a payment plan or something.
