Private for profit schools have a few downsides. This poor bastid is teaching in Korea and his hagwon holds his life in their hands.

What a nightmare; but he is funny. I feel for him.

Education done the "business" way? Bad, bad, bad idea. That's all.

I don't know. I listened for awhile but my main thought kept coming up as: sounds like working for American schools.

For those who don't know what a hagwon is: it's like a study/tutoring center for kids in high pressure/high stakes Korea where your grades are evidence of your worth and the only thing that will assure you of a bright future. Most of the time, the kids go there right after school and they stay until around 10:00 pm or later. I had an exchange student and she said that Korean kids typically only get about 6 hours of sleep a night so they can study more. While she was at my home she took quite a break though--she never studied! I do have to wonder what happens to the Koreans who are at the bottom 50% of their classes. And according to my student, the sped programs are not well developed--she was shocked that we would try to educate a child with a 70 pt or lower IQ.

Oh man! I didn't think American schools were this out of whack. On an individual basis I know some are a mess but as a whole....it can't be this bad can it?

do you mean schools should not be accountable? The public schools have business managers, also---sometimes the most important person in the school district. As far as the video.....the guy is probably Canadian.....80 students? Try 180....avoid the Hogwans, but there are some good jobs over there.
