Research shows that a country SHOULD value their education systems and put it in a high priority status, because it is a weapon the country can NOT afford to suffer in quality. Why you ask?

Because, it is with education that students will become future citizens that will be productive(meaning bringing in money and with that contributing to the government making the economy grow, hints, getting out of the crises America is now in). They will come out of school being citizens, who are not only productive, but will be competitive(meaning doing their best, giving quality to the work market) and citizens who are conscious(meaning they will have responsibility and respect with the country they live in and the people they share the country the world with).

If the country does not value, take care, give priority to their educational systems. What will happen?

I will tell you, we would have a bigger crises at hand and more crimes. Why is that, you ask? Because, with out a good education where we teach student to think of others, of where they live, and be qualified to work, know how to read and write. How will they be productive? They will not find jobs, if they are not educated. They will be ignorant, selfless, and selfish. That causing them to turn to a life of crime and etc.

So lets take care of our educational systems, and the people who work there, especially teachers who have great responsibility and forming students into citizens who will be the future of this country. In hope that they will make a difference and make this country a better place to live in.

To do that we have to think about: Are the educational systems in a good situation? Are good teachers feeling secure in their job positions? Are we still keeping up with a good qualities in the schools? Are we taking care of the country's educational system, investing in it?

The government needs to think about that instead of wasting public money on stupid things...I am not even going to list some of the stupid things the money goes to, for it will be long.

Do your research about the education system? The importance of it.
And you will start rethinking and taking some serious action.

The people attending these fine institutions have to care about their educations first. Then it will make a difference.

Romila, You are posting in the education forum. Every person that posts in this forum cares about education. I'm not sure what kind of response you are looking for with your post. When someone says "research shows.".. or "research was done.." They usually then cite the research, i.e. A study by Boston University shows that blah, blah, blah. Then you would include a link to the research or study.

I'm just wondering why any "research" had to be done to figure this out in the first place....

I'm not trying to undermine education when I say this but America didn't become the greatest country in the world by education alone. It was alot of other factors that contributed. Primarily production. Back in the early 20th century, we didn't have too many universities all over the country. There were few. So to say education is the greatest weapon would be to be seriously misinformed. People who came here from other countries with no formal education were those who built up New York City and all the other big cities by training and experience alone. Most farmers had basic elementary school education yet they were supplying and shipping food and other goods cross-country. This country became the greatest with major help by these people who were the backbones of civilization. A majority of whom had no education to boot. I'm not using that as some kind of excuse for this generation. We should be pursing education as much as possible. And honestly, we have been. There has never been as much bachelor and master's degree holders in this country at any other time. The problem is the country has turned it's back to what made the economy successful. I'm one of the rare people who believe the pressure for an education has been too much.

Now you have to have a high school diploma to work in a factory. You have to have a bachelor's to work a basic office job. It's ridiculous because these things weren't required just 50 years ago and economy was at the top of it's game. And as a result, these restrictions have put millions of people out of jobs today. Not everyone is meant to go to college. Not everyone is meant to finish high school. Some people don't have the ambition, some people don't have the means, and some people simply do not want to.

What the U.S. should focus on is having more blue collar industries and get rid of these restrictions for people who don't have a higher education or even a high school diploma. Watch how the economy begins to boom again when you put these people back to work.

1. goods are cheap due to manufacturing in third world countries. how many people are willing to pay more to have things made in the usa?

2. energy is the next "thing" IMHO. we should be doing everything to dominate alternative energy production, that requires an educated workforce.

I don't like to think of it as a, "weapon"

Education is something that should be universally available to everyone which is why we need to develop a free online education system so everyone in the world can get a free education.

The revolutions in alt energy aren't going to be accomplished by one country. Just look at ITER, its being funded by many major countries such as china, usa, south korea, russia etc to help develop fusion energy. In the future its not going to be countries fighting with each other, rather its going to all of us working together to lift the standard of living for the entire world.

Not many but there is always downward pressure to lower prices. Finding the cheapest labor has its limits. Eventually we are going to utilize robots to lower costs. When that happens the world will be producing massive surpluses and it will be cheap to give away stuff like food, water, houses etc because the cost to build said products will be so cheap that non-profits can give it away for free.

Bingo....this is spot on. This country puts plenty into the education system.

The MAIN problem is the parents and students who do not value education/learning.....that is the crux of the problem.

But being the PHONY country we are.....anybody in power who states this fact will be demonized.

Does anyone remember when Bill Cosby was lecturing parents about being involved in their children's education?

Project Appleseed - Bill Cosby On Parents

Quote:
On Parenting: "People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around. . . . The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting."

"I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father?"

"The idea is to one day get out of the projects. You don't just stay there."

On Blame: "We as black folks have to do a better job. . . . Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard."

". . . We cannot blame white people. . . . ."
