Even community colleges.
As long as you're over 18 you can go to any college without a GED or profiecency exam. But most homeschoolers/unschoolers can get a diploma and can get into colleges of GREAT quality without any problem.

Why would you say that? What do you know of unschooling and the way it's done to be able to make this claim? That's crazy!

A transcript in the US is the permenant record of all COURSES taken, including GRADES. If a child is unschooled, how can they have grades? How can they have actual course work? Even home school diplomas and transcripts state that in order to receive "credit" they have to complete x amount of hours in a subject, or read and complete work on a certain textbook. Both of which mean it is homeschooling and not unschooling.
Obviously you don't have any experience with unschooling and shouldn't be talking about it. Creating a transcript for an unschooler may be a little more challenging that doing it for a homeschooler, but neither neccessarily have grades, and both do a lot of learning.

here's a great resource for you to learn about Unschooling - Family Unschoolers Network - Unschooling Support

Unschooling is mostly child led learning. There are no limits on what or when a child can learn a specific subject. If a child is interested in learning a lot of math, but not a lot about reading and english, then that's where they go. Unschooling is using the world to teach every subject. Getting a child to help you with cooking teaches them science, math, reading and home economics. Taking a child grocery shopping teaches them a lot of those same skills. Watching television and having discussions on whatever show your watching is learning.... some of the best discussions my sons and I ever had were started on a Simpsons epidsode and we talked for hours on end never finishing the actual episode! LOL! Unschooling is allowing each individual child to learn at their speed, at their interest level, on their time table without forcing books, worksheets or memorization onto the child.

It's not something that fits every families or even every childs needs. But it does work and it works as well as any other style of homeschooling! The only way to find out if it's right for your family is to try it for yourself. There is nothing that says that you have to stick with unschooling if it doesn't work for you!
