Who grows up actually not wanting to aspire to be more than a bum? Not many I presume. Keeping your legs closed so you don't fall off is the whole philosophy behind abstinent only programs. Guess what? It doesn't work which study after study has shown. Teens are human and their hormones are raging during that period. They're going to have sex. There is nothing abnormal about it and the best thing we should be doing is making sure that they're doing safely whenever they do have it. But I guess charter schools teaching that the earth is 6000 years old or other kinds of pseudoscience don't really care what researchers think or has any regard for science in general.
I know quite a few young ladies who have been taught properly by their parents and do not "give in" to their hormones. It is not a "given". People can learn self-control and self respect. And parents can be better parents and not give children the opportunity to make a bad choice that will, effectively, ruin their life.
Sorry, I don't go with the "OH WELL" mentality when it comes this topic.
All through high school my daughter received invites to baby showers. she's a freshman at lmu and still gets invites to baby showers...not one wedding...just babies.

Do the young men who impregnate these girls get expelled also? Guessing not. Why are only the young women expected to abide by this code?

That isn't what I said. Sex is normal, it feels good, and shouldn't expect teenagers not to have sex especially considering where they are at developmentally(what you don't think is a given). I'd rather they learn how to have sex safely so they don't get stds and end up with a child than teach them that abstinence is the only road because you think they shouldn't be having it.

You can read 20yearsinbransons response to understand this mentality. Apparently people who have sex have no self control, no self respect, and are the result of bad parenting. It's even worse for women since they're designated deviant harpies who couldn't keep their legs closed. It's pretty bad when something as natural as sex is stigmatized, but you see it mostly in really traditional communities.

If a teen practices contraception effectively, avoids sexually transmitted diseases, and doesn't violate his or her ethical and spiritual beliefs, how will the choice to have sex effectively ruin their life?
It's not harder for her to graduate. She just has to go back to the 'regular' school, which actually may be easier since "charters" are suppose to be more academically challenging. She made it hard on herself by disregarding the rules set forth by the charter school. (But I suppose nobody actually ever reads the rules.) Regretfully, she is the example the school is setting. Hopefully, other young women at the charter will learn from her mistake.
This: In authorizing charter schools, the General Assembly created an avenue for parents, teachers, and community members "to take responsible risks and create new, innovative, more flexible ways of educating all children within the public school system." is the purpose of charter schools in Colorado. Nothing about more academicaly challenging.

It wouldn't. But the school has the right to make the distinction that you can have all the sex you want and we don't care, but once you get pregnant, all bets are off.

What about the students who are not pregnant but test positive or who refuse to take a pregnancy test?
What is the justification for expelling them?
Wasnt this part of the AGENDA in creating charter schools to begin with? Create a quasi private school that can receive public funds but operate based on conservative/religious social beliefs and standards? Just wonderin why this is a surprise?
