I make a lot of mistakes when I'm on message boards, but that is not one of them.
Not me!
(JK I generally toss a post out in a few seconds and rarely proof read it. We are conveying ideas, not submitting class assignments or demonstrating our proofreading and grammatical prowess -- well at least not most of us)
I don't go around correcting people on forums, but mangling the usage of "lose" vs. "loose" is also annoying since it's become so common. When I see people write about how they will often "loose" their minds or their glasses, I visualize in my own mind the tops of their heads opening up on a hinge and their elated minds quickly escaping to cause mass mayhem in the area, or their glasses growing legs and racing off down the street once unbound and set free from the oppressive faces of the humans!
I tend to only note people's errors in posts (always notice them, seldom point them out) when the content of their post is ridiculous, as well, making the errors the icing on the cake. It's just the overall credibility package.
Typos don't bother me at all, but I edited for enough years to know the difference between a typo (certainly have enough of my own), and when people just plain don't know the difference.
I use the word all the time, in fact everyone I know does. I know I for one don't plan on stopping its use anytime soon.
The issue isn't whether or not you use the phrase, it's whether or not you write it correctly (as two words), or incorrectly (as one). It's a perfectly acceptable phrase. It's just not a single word. It's two.

I saw "loose" used instead of "lose" the other day on a placard at a museum exhibit. It's one thing if it's an online forum, where people ostensibly do not have the personal investment and have no real impetus to proofread so as not to come off as unintelligent. It's quite another for those who invest in a museum-caliber display to not give things a once-over. Not so professional, sigh.
I'd like to offer congradulations to all who participated in this thread. More people should of done so.
ROFL, well done.
