Spell check will not underline using the wrong words however. You must have spelling and vocabulary to know when to use words.....

Two, too, to

There, their, they're

Then, than

Most people don't seem to care these days.
I've seen some pretty atrocious notes/emails from parents.
Not every software program has spellcheck and there is none when you take pen to paper.

Those don't fall under spelling. I highly doubt the school is eliminating all grammar.

I said spelling and VOCABULARY.

You are rarely taught only how to spell a word. The meaning of them is part and parcel to spelling them.

In first grade I had separate spelling and grammar, or as they called it, English.

You have the wrong definition of "grammar". That is structure and composition of sentences and language.

Vocabulary, the meaning of words goes hand in hand with spelling of them.

We did them separately of spelling. In first grade we sat around a table and the teacher would ask us to spell words or show us a car and we would read the words. We had scorecards and stickers. The proper use of "to" would come under the structure of sentences.

The fact that YOU did them differently has no bearing on the use of spell check and it's not finding errors in the misuse of words.

Yes, Spell Check is useless with homophones. The worst misuse seems to come with their, there, and they're, although I just saw eye for aye (not I!) recently...

Yes, and I keep seeing "per say" and not just on here. And the past tense of "lead" did not change to "lead," as it is still "led."
