I just got home from dropping off my little sister off at college. It was very hard to keep the tears away. The only thing i said was Dont do anything stupid, then i left.

This is the hardest thing i have ever done. Ive known that little girl since she was a baby. I saw her every day and now that has changed forever. I feel like I have lost her. What is worse is i cant protect her from anything now. Her college is about 50 miles away.

i cant imagine how a father would feel doing this. this is torture. i shed a few tears when i got home just now.

It is hard, but as a parent our job is to give them roots and wings. Roots to ground them and wings so they can fly. Sending them off to college is their turn to use both. Tears all around are okay.

I know we think about how hard this is on parents, but I believe it can be equally difficult for siblings to deal with. I have kids who are one grade apart in high school. My boy, who is the younger - but is bigger, stronger and just looks older - was telling me he would like to follow his sister to the same college, just to make sure she is ok. I never thought he would have cared that much, but sometimes sibling relationships can be stronger than any of us realize.

You sister is lucky to have you.

She's lucky to have a brother like you... ...I hope she realizes that!
