I really like this idea. I realize many districts don't have the ability to hand out Macbooks, and in some areas the student may not have internet access, but for districts that have the wherewithall, why not?
That is a good idea. Schools have had to be creative in making up days this year across the country. I've heard many schools going to school on a few Saturdays so families didn't have to change vacation plans or extend the school year longer. Some schools have sent home missed work to have it done at home, etc.
It's all good as long as you maintain power/internet access on a snow day. Here in GA, there are people who lost power on Wednesday this week and are still in the dark (today is Sunday). We get nasty ice storms here.

I'm in GA too, and we didn't lose power, thankfully. In today's AJC there is a story about this being done right here, I think at Alpharetta high school!

???? Ice storms or any kind of winter storm strong enough to knock out power are rare in Georgia. I live there too.
Not bad at all. Virtual meetings are growing by the day in business. Might as well let young people get acclimated to the virtual world in all aspects.

Ice on tree limbs + overhead power lines = limbs taking down power lines. During the 2000 ice storm (the one that disrupted the Super Bowl), I went without power for three days. Had to go stay in a hotel because it was so cold in the house (luckily, the Westin let us bring our dog!).
1. Teachers need to be trained how to teach online. I have a flipped classroom, so it would be easy to have a virtual snow day but most teachers don't natively know how to do so.
2. How to enforce "attendance".
