My daughter Failed Starr Math test. She in 7th grade
Can you recommend some practice study books and I retest her again this summer? This way she can properly prepare for the next Starr in 8th grade. And also practice 7th grade starr this summer.
Is she in summer school ? Did they give you a breakdown of her scores and where she is weakest ?
Is she weak in the arithmetic (doing the calculations) or the setting up the equation from the world problem ?
You can go to the TEA site and download released tests to practice with.
She should also have access to "Think Through Math" software. Check your school's website about it.
FYI..7th grade do not get calculators.
Here is the link..if she used it in school then she has an id/pw and can log in.
The TEA site also has the formula chart used in STAAR testing.

She struggles with word problems.
she has dyscalculia.
Underdiagnosed, but it's math dyslexia and very common.

You've diagnosed her with dyscalculia on an internet forum, based on her failure of seventh grade math and her parent's claim that she struggles with word problems? Wow! Just wow!

Has she been diagnosed by a professional or is this your opinion?
If she has been diagnosed by a professional then she should be eligible for accommodations and support by your school district. If she just has trouble with word problems then a private tutor should do the trick.
There is no time for determining if she has a "math illness".
Private tutors may or may not know what to tutor in..you'd be surprised who does private tutoring these days.
I'm certified Math 4-8 and I ONLY do tutoring jobs in schools.
My busiest times are from Spring Break until mid May (the 2nd retest of Math 8th grade).
And what I do is tutor those failing students in pull out sessions every day.
They tend to fall into 2 groups..those that cannot do arithmetic (add/subtract/multipy/divide) and those that cannot set up an equation from the word problem.
Note: 7th grade may not have to re-take STAAR (only 5th and 8th retake in the summer). She should be in summer school getting help to get her to a satisfactory level which will allow her to move on to 8th grade. You need to check with your school district on the specifics.
