I was similar in math. The "A" students were in the front row paying perfect attention, quickly repeating / plugging in a bunch of formulas. I was in the back row either reading a book about something else I wanted to know, or creating the formulas myself. Of course I got C's in those classes.

Nourse was a doctor. The movie Blade Runner got its name from one of his books.

Actually that movie might provide ideas about what Medical Engineering might involve in the future.
