I am in favor of paying teachers more, but performance has to strictly evaluated and the unions that protect bad teachers have to go.

Either: Teacher is stellar, and makes a high salary. Or Teacher is bad/lazy/apathetic and gets fired.

Most teachers are neither stellar or bad/lazy/apathetic. Most teachers are good enough just as other employees are good enough.

We cannot insist on perfection in any job.
