Teachers and staff members in case of an active shooter situation.

The Riverside Local School board members discussed the issue last week and plan to revisit it on Dec. 16, as well as hold public forums. Superintendent Scott Mann said he hopes this policy could be used as a deterrent from potential threats.

Absolutely not. I could see a student holding a teacher at knifepoint to get a lock box open. Then the school will be liable for what happens next. Instead of having to find the fire arms to shoot up the school, you just need to get the hand of a teacher that opens the lock box. I think this puts teachers and students in more danger.

Bad idea. Would increase the love triangle murder-suicide rate.

Bad idea to have firearms on campus. In areas that have schools without any close police presence, I can see the need to have some off campus citizens designated (in secret as to who they are if possible) by the school board to be called in case of a school shooting situation. I don't think in most cases this would be something you would want if there are police always in close proximity. In rural areas, this is not always the case. Many schools in the prairie states and in the western United States may only have a couple sheriff's deputies driving the roads within a 50 mile radius.

Dumb idea; the students would have them open in a week, tops.
