She blew off an Ivy League education. Was she right to do it?

I think it is very difficult for a high school student that was an excellent student, maybe popular to enter College with all the other high school students that were excellent students and also popular in their prior life. Suddenly they are just like everyone else. It can be quite the challenging situation. I am thinking she could not handle it.

I used to live near the Columbia U campus and I remember that the students weren't friendly at all. It was actually a very insular and clique-y environment. I went to a few restaurants and bars in that area and remember feeling an air of hostility. I suspect this girl isn't the only one that has been made miserable there. One of my childhood friends was accepted to Yale Law years back. Her parents had spent their entire lives obsessing about it. Then she left and became a bartender in Jamaica. Not Jamaica, Queens but the actual country of Jamaica. She had to take control of her life, as she wanted it scripted. She had to find her own happiness. Not everyone will understand it, but I do completely.

Smart people will prevail anywhere; with or without an education. Many young people have mental problems that prevent them from achieving their potential. The fact that she threw away opportunities that others would love to have, perhaps makes room for someone else.
