Well, I also do have reading comprehension so I don't know if that is why my grammar sucks. It is a challenge for me when I read, I got books but every time I read it I can't understand the concept. I am using grammarly but I don't think it is working not unless I pay for it.

If anybody been through this and know any more tips feel free to post.

OP, have you been tested and diagnosed for any kind of reading disability or a reading-related cognitive glitch? Maybe not dyslexia, but something else? That could turn out to be very helpful: a revelation. Maybe ask your doctor for a referral. There may be testing that's covered by insurance.

No haven't been tested but I probably did this thing at school I have forgotten, so that is why I probably want to do something. I let my fear of failing not going to college but I had a wake up call that I want to change my life. I am about 30 and really want to study for something, do I need to get tested again, my mom probably lost all the records she had that at some point.

You got evaluated at school? Your mom may not have the records (or she may), but she'd remember if there were an unusual diagnosis. But she probably would have told you about it, or gotten you some special help, or something. Still, you could ask her. I think it would be worthwhile to get evaluated, because if you have a known condition, there could be a remedy, or a method for mitigating it. You might be relieved to find it has a name, and a method for coping with it. They may know more about it now, than when you were in school.

Honestly, if you want to turn your life around and get into a profession (congrats on setting new goals!), this would be the first step.

If you are not good at reading comprehension, try this. Read to yourself, but pretend you are reading aloud...as if you are reading to someone else. If you are by yourself, you can actually read aloud. If you use a Kindle, it has a feature that you can highlight any word you don't know and get the meaning and pronunciation. This way you will become familiar with correct grammar.
Listen to TV news. Repeat what they say. We are surrounded by both good and bad examples. Surround yourself with good examples and then emulate them.

OK, so you got a diagnosis, it sounds like. Do what you can to find out what it was. This could be the key. If your mom doesn't remember, your school may be able to dig up the records. There may even be a teacher or principal or guidance counselor on staff who remembers.

You aren't that bad a writer. Mainly what I see is that you use run-on sentences instead of just ending them with a period.

I was stubborn and ashamed of it, instead I got into this program where I don't have classes for two periods, something
I was stubborn and ashamed of it. Instead I got into this program where I don't have classes for two periods, something...See? There is a pause, slowing down in the action as one thought ends and another thought begins. Where you put a comma and I put a period instead..

Yes, I agree with those who say to check with your old school district to see if they still have your records somewhere. Don't be embarrassed; you are doing the right thing.

I was also going to mention trying public libraries for literacy lessons. Larger libraries, especially, have programs like this and there's no shame in attending. You would get a private tutor and you'd already be ahead of the people who can't read at all. Yes, there are many adults who cannot read at all. They hide it well but many finally do go to a literacy class and learn. Good luck to you.
