Ugh. But why not? Every single pick has been someone that sounds like the very worst choice imaginable. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...doesnt-get-it/

Let's have fun with that confirmation hearing:

Weren't you unqualified for just about every education job she had?
That tape over the kids' mouth thing?
The people skills....?
Didn't you cost a mayor his election?
So your husband...do you let your daughters near him?
So you want to lead the nation's public schools...don't your kids go to a swanky private school?
Common Core?
The cheating scandal?

We need someone to dismantle the Department of Education. Can she do that because that's the skill that person will need?

Rhee's ed reform movement needs the DOE in order to dictate their agenda. They are very against local control since ed "reform" always loses at the local level.

Sounds like those on the far right, the strongest part of Trump's base, want nothing to do with her. I'd be shocked if she gets the nod and through confirmation.

They want to sink common core so states can go back to being all over the place with their standards. After all - who wants to be held to a minimum consistent standard? (You know like every other first world country that we always compare ourselves with....). Alabama should be able to teach *******s math and claim all its students graduate the class by setting the bar so low. Kentucky teaching creationism is fine local control.

Because that's what they want - they don't want standards, they want local ideological control, often religion-driven, and they certainly don't want to be held to common minimum standards of learning that allows people to actually see how well their state does. They want to be able to compare within state only - and come out looking like they are doing great. Public school kids lose in that race, as always.

Rhee doesn't fit with their agenda (which is parochial, insular "education"). And she doesn't fit with the union agenda on the other side (despite empty-minded swallowing on the left that teacher union interests are somehow coterminous with kid's interests). So she'll have a very hard time all round.

Wow, I really need to go back and read more about her, but up until now all I ever heard about her was she kicked ass in the D.C. Schools and started turning them around. Until in comes new mayor, Corey Booker, who boots her out because he needs to pander to the union voters.
