you mean apprenticeships are corrupt, not the trades itself? AKA "The Apprentice" (Donald Trump!). A lot of apprenticeship courses like plumbing take 5 years to "finish" through the union! It's hands on though, working while you earn some.

Didn't we all have to go through high school to get all that experiences you speak of? What I was getting at was that I wish there was more schools that get you up and running to the whole point, not the unnecessary stuff. High school has all those classes you speak of and not to mention the most awkward "stepping out of your comfort zone" ever there is.

I certainly would not have taken them as part of a job prep program but they were mind opening.

Again it goes back to Ivory's question -- define "unnecessary."

The comfort zone she mentions is intellectual, not social. It's about opening up and learning things that expand your mind and your world. It's kind of like the difference between doing a job vs knowing the job needs to be done vs knowing why.

No course in college is unnecessary if your goal is to be an educated person. People shouldn't view college as a "job getting" venture. Go to learn and be exposed to new things.
